VANCOUVER – At its annual conference, non-profit Textile Exchange announced its new Climate+ sustainability strategy which includes a bold ambition to help the industry reduce its CO2 emissions from textile fibre and material production by between 35-45 per cent.

The more refined approach comes after the organisation called on more than 20 organisations and opened up a survey to a wider audience as it looked to gauge feedback on where its focus should lie for the next decade.

Climate, along with circularity, narrowly edged out topics such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), water, traceability and technology, policy and legislation, and regenerative agriculture.

“What we realised is that it’s important for us to focus, and by focusing on climate we’re addressing one of the urgent impact areas,” said Textile Exchange’s chief operating officer (COO) Ryan Young.
