PATNA: The state government on Sunday launched several new services, including online land mutation system and e-way bill facility and made all bridges made by the state government toll tax free. Installing speed governor has been made compulsory for all commercial vehicles to acquire fitness and permit from Sunday onwards.

One has to wait a bit longer to assess the robustness of the e-way bill portal. Just over 171,000 of these had been generated till 5 pm on Sunday, the first day of its mandatory nation-wide introduction for inter-state movement of goods worth over Rs 50,000 under the goods and services tax (GST) system.

Fiscal year 2017-18 comes to a close after the tumultuous implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, many provisions of which are still being implemented. But several systems, critical to how consumer packaged goods firms operate in India, are yet to be firmed up. Here’s a look at three major areas still awaiting clarity from the government.

MAHARASHTRA HAS recorded a 26 per cent jump in revenue collection from Goods and Services Tax this year. The state received Rs1.14 lakh crore in revenue from taxes, according to data from the GST department. Of the total revenue, 31 per cent was collected as Value Added Tax (VAT) between April and July, before the GST came into existence. It was the time when dealers were confused and gearing up for the new tax regime.

India's biggest tax reform, the Goods and Services Tax (GST), has completed three quarters post its implementation, even as traders are struggling to come to terms with the new regime.

The government has sanctioned GST refunds worth about Rs 127 billion or 80 per cent of the eligible claims of exporters, an official said on Sunday.
